Latvian national airline airBaltic will organize a repatriation flight from the United Kingdom on December 28, Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics said after a video conference with his Baltic counterparts today, informs LETA.

Taking into consideration reports of a new Covid-19 variant circulating in the United Kingdom, the Latvian government tonight banned passenger traffic with the UK from Monday, December 21, till January 1, State Chancellery spokeswoman Ilze Pavlova informed LETA.

Passenger turnover at Riga Airport in November this year decreased by 90.9 % compared to November 2019. The total number of flights was 1 903, that is 70.1 % less. Data of the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that total volume of arrivals and departures of freight and mail decreased by 4.5 % (1).
