Estonia's registered unemployment grows to 7.8% in July

The number of registered unemployed in Estonia was 50,701 at the end of July, making up 7.8% of the total number of workforce from age 16 to retirement age, informed LETA/BNS.

 

The number of registered unemployed has increased by 2.9 percentage points compared with July 2019, the Unemployment Insurance Fund said. 

 

The share of registered unemployed in the workforce in July remained at the same level as in June 2020. The number of newly unemployed persons registered during the month was 7,689, whereas the figure stood at 6,324 in July 2019. At the end of June this year, 8,127 people were registered as newly unemployed, statistics from the Unemployment Insurance Fund show.

 

East-Viru County had the highest unemployment rate last month at 12.9%, followed by Valga County with 9.5%, West-Viru County with 8.6%, and Polva and Parnu counties with 8.5% each.

 

Unemployment was lowest in Hiiu County at 4.5%. The corresponding figure was at 4.8% in Jogeva County, 6% in Saare and Viljandi counties and 6.7% in Tartu County. 

 

Of the registered unemployed as at the end of the month, 11,916, or 23.5%, were persons with reduced capacity for work. 

 

In July, the total number of job offers available via the Unemployment Insurance Fund was 9,363, and the number of positions yet to be filled stood at 4,361 at the end of the month.

 

Statistics on registered unemployment reflect the number of unemployed persons who have registered with the Unemployment Insurance Fund.
