Latvian ports handled 37.298 million tons of cargo in January-October 2020, a decrease of 29.5% as compared to the same period in 2019, writes LETA, according to the Transport Ministry's data.

The government in Latvia decided today to step up coronavirus prevention measures in Daugavpils city, Baldone, Kraslava, Salacgriva, Akniste, Varaklani, Marupe, Malpils, Smiltene, Garkalne, Limbazi and Salaspils regions, informs LETA.

Provisional data of the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that in 2019 Latvian social protection expenditure accounted for almost 5 billion or EUR 4 775.6 million and, it has grown by EUR 335.4 million or 7.6 %, compared to 2018. Expenditure on sickness and heath care grew by 15.0 %, on survivors' support by 12.0 %, on old-age pensions and on material support for old age by 5.5 %.
