Lithuanian Seimas greenlights new e-toll system
The outgoing parliament on Tuesday adopted amendments to the Law on Financing the Road Maintenance and Development Program after 76 lawmakers voted in favor, one was against and one MP abstained.
The toll size will also depend on the type of a vehicle and the amount of emission and will be levied on state-significance trunk roads only. The fee will be capped at 3.5-7 euro centers per kilometer for buses and passenger cars (up to 3.5 tons) and at 5-16 euro cents for heavy vehicles.
Vehicles of special services, vehicles of the national defense and interior systems, commuter buses and vehicles and buses adapted for the transportation of or operation by disabled people will be exempt from the toll.
Minimum rates will apply to some farmers and agricultural companies, as well as coaches.
The government will allocate up to 90 million euros to the e-toll system from the Plan for the DNA of the Future Economy or issue a state guarantee for a loan. The new e-toll system is expected to be introduced in 2023.
