A fifth ship-to-shore container crane has been delivered to Klaipedos Smelte, one of the biggest stevedoring companies in the Lithuanian port of Klaipeda, owned by international container terminal operator Terminal Investment, informs LETA/BNS.

The delivery of the installation, valued at 10 million euros, from Finland marks the completion of the company's key expansion phase, the company said.

Assembled at the Konecranes production facility in the Finnish port of Hanko, the crane will boost Klaipeda's competitive position against the ports of Gdansk, Bremerhaven and Hamburg.

Klaipedos Smelte's handling capacity has now been upped to 800,000 containers, or around 1.1 million TEU.

Klaipedos Smelte also says the future reconstruction of the port's entry gate is an important signal for container shipping companies about Klaipeda's readiness to service big 400-meter-long container ships.
