Latvian government substantially expands air travel opportunities

BC, Riga, 02.09.2020.Print version
The Cabinet of Ministers in Latvia on September 2nd agreed to permit air travel to countries where the the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,00 population is twice as high as the European Union's average number, stipulating at the same time that those returning from these countries must self-isolate for 14 days, informs LETA.

As ministers debated a number of issues concerned with curbing the spread of Covid-19, including the Transport and Economics Ministries' proposal to allow air travel to more countries, the government agreed to allow flights to countries with higher Covid-19 incidence on the condition that travelers will spend 14 days in self-isolation on returning from these trips.

According to the Economics Ministry's data, as at August 26, the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,00 population in the EU was 46. Rounding up this number, the government decided to permit air travel to countries where the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,00 population does not exceed 90.

At present, citizens and residents of the EU and countries of the European Economic Area (EEA) are allowed to enter Latvia without restrictions if the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,00 population in their country does not exceed 16.
