The Investment and Development Agency of Latvia wishes to primarily support those companies that already export their products and are ready to expand into new markets to further raise sales, or to compensate companies for the fall in demand for Latvian exports in countries that Covid-19 has hit the hardest, the agency's head Kaspars Rozkalns said during a meeting with President Egils Levits on June 12, cites LETA.

According to Rozkalns, Levits inquired about the planned support measures for companies, the Investment and Development Agency's work on Latvia's economic image, projects to attract investments and promote tourism.

"The agency is currently working on support instruments meant to promote international competitiveness of our companies. With the help of these instruments, we first of all want to support companies that are already exporting their products and are prepared to expand into new markets to further increase sales, or to compensate companies for reduction in the demand for Latvian products in countries that the Covid-19 virus has hit the hardest. For the promotion of export, the economic image is important, it creates significant added value, which is why we are currently working on a model to popularize Latvia internationally," said Rozkalns.

During the meeting, Levits and Rozkalns also discussed investment projects in Latvia. At the moment, the Investment and Development Agency is working on fifteen investment projects that commenced before the Covid-19 crisis. None of the investors have changed their mind to invest in Latvia, but implementation of these investment projects could be postponed until 2021. The investors have so far confirmed projects that would create 1,568 new jobs over the next three years.

Levits and Rozkalns also talked about the situation in tourism industry.
