Latvia managed to trace about 80 percent of Covid-19 cases, said Jurijs Perevoscikovs, the director of the Disease Risk Analysis and Prevention Department at the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC), in a press conference today, cites LETA.

He told the press after the government meeting today that last week was extraordinary for Latvia by the number of new Covid-19 cases. "This number has risen steeply and risen considerably. For two months we have managed to contain the disease on a stable level - 37 cases a week on average. Last week 151 cases were registered which is four times more," he said.

Perevoscikovs said that people keep traveling and contract the disease abroad, therefore self-isolation requirement remains in force.

"The number of Covid-19 tests is high, and we can rely on the numbers of the infected people," he said.

At present, 1% of all Covid-19 tests are positive compared to 0.3-0.4% in summer. According to Perevoscikovs, 3% would be the critical threshold, suggesting that the disease is spreading rapidly and is not controlled.

The expert said that it is important to ensure traceability of the infection, event though not always it is possible.

"Last week in Latvia and the neighboring countries 80 percent of Covid-19 cases were traced This is a quite stable indicator," said Perevoscikovs.

As reported, 32 new Covid-19 cases were registered in Latvia after 3,517 tests were carried out in the past 24 hours, according to the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).
