New light-vehicle registrations in the Baltic States declined by 52% in 2Q 2020

Analysis of fully-processed registrations’ data performed by AV Automotive Research / AutoTyrimai, based on source data obtained from Regitra (Lithuania), CSDD (Latvia) and Maanteeamet (Estonia), indicates that new light-vehicle (M1&N1) registrations in the Baltic States slumped by whopping 52.1% to 14’199 units in II quarter 2020.

Such is an outcome of quarantine measures taken by the governments because of coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on the economy. All three countries had quite similar bad showings: Lithuania sunk by 53.7% (to 6’779 units), Estonia – by 54.3% (to 4’243 units) and Latvia – by 44.5% (to 3’177 units), thus suffering the least.

 

 As for country share, Lithuania accounted for 47.7%, while Estonia and Latvia respectively had 29.9% and 22.4% shares. When calculated per 1’000 inhabitants, thought all showings are much worse, Estonia remained the leader here with its index 3.2, while Lithuania (2.4) and Latvia (1.7) were left behind.


There were 12’423 passenger cars (-52.8%) and 1’776 light commercial vehicles (-46.7%) registered in the Baltic States in II quarter 2020. The best performing makes (brands) were Toyota (2’239 units), Fiat (2’230), Volkswagen (1’471), Skoda (1’459) and Renault (901). The most popular models were Fiat Tipo (1’153 units), Toyota RAV4 (791), Fiat 500 (781), Toyota Corolla (575) and Skoda Octavia (473). New light-vehicle registrations in the Baltic States declined by 31.4% to 37’068 units in the first half of 2020. Lithuania was down by 29.3% to 18’488 units thus keeping the lead. Latvia decreased by 30.5% to 7’530 units, while Estonia slipped by 35.2% to 11’050 units.
