In April, 22% employees in Latvia worked remotely
In April, 27.4% employees had option to work remotely, but almost three fourths (72.6%) did not have this option. Only 5.4% of employees having option to work remotely did not use it.
The largest share of persons working remotely (27.0%) were aged 45–54 years. The largest share of males working remotely (29.6%) were aged 25–34 years, but females (26.8%) – in age group 35–44 years.
In April 2020 the largest share of employees working remotely (24.3%) in the total number of employees was observed in age group 25–34 years, but the smallest (16.7%) in age group 55–64 years.
One fourth (25.5%) of all persons working remotely in April 2020 were employed in education. In financial and insurance activities 17.1% of employees worked. The smallest share (7.1%) of all employees working remotely was observed in manufacturing sector (B–F).
The largest (85.2%) share of employees working remotely in the total number of employees in the respective kind of economic activity (sector) was observed in financial and insurance activity. Slightly more than a half (55.8%) of persons employed in education and 53.1% employed in information and communication services worked remotely. The smallest (6.9%) share of employees working remotely was observed in manufacturing sector (B–F).
Most often (56.2%) professionals³, two fifths (39.9%) of managers and slightly less (36.2%) technicians and associate professionals worked remotely. Only every eleventh (9.2%) clerical support worker (office worker) or service and sales worker worked remotely.
Almost two thirds (64.3%) of employees working remotely, worked this way all working time in April, one fifth (20.5%) – on a regular basis 3–5 days a week, 6.8% – on a regular basis 1–2 days a week, and 6.5% of employees – on a regular basis part of the working day or several hours.
In April 2020, 1.4 thousand of population aged 15–74 years in 996 households were surveyed in Labour Force Survey.
