"Estonia is a digital superpower and a strong voice on Russia. But it's ability to get others to adopt its line has been limited," Politico writes in its overview.

According to Politico, the most influential countries in the EU are Germany, the U.K., France and Italy. Since the analysis also takes into account EU membership candidates, the fifth most influential country is Turkey and Politico says that "Turkey has almost a standing invitation to summits now and they have the EU's hands tied over the refugee deal."

Of Estonia's neighbors, Finland places 12th, Lithuania 17th and Latvia 24th.

The least influential among the 33 countries is Albania, while Macedonia and Montenegro placed slightly higher.

Results of the analysis showed the relative strength of a country's leader and ambassador, where the country is ranked overall, and whether its trajectory in the matrix is positive, neutral or negative based on likely events in the coming months. Estonian position was assessed as neutral.
