Closer cooperation between the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the country's IT businesses would help to find new business partners and sales clues on foreign markets, thereby enlivening the Estonian economy, Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu has said, cites LETA/BNS.

Reinsalu met on Wednesday with the management board of the Estonian Association of Information Technology and Telecommunications (ITL), spokespeople for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

Reinsalu said that the ministry continues to strengthen its capability when it comes to international economic relations and places importance in cooperation with Estonian businesses.'"The crisis has helped to put attention on Estonia's digital solutions. In collaboration with our good partners, we see a possibility to enliven the economy through them; our network of missions abroad and honorary consuls are already working towards that goal," the minister said.

"Of course we are working also with foreign partners. With United Arab Emirates, for instance, we are planning to stage a global digital business forum in the fall to help enliven the global economy in the new reality," he said.

The minister said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs raises topics that are important for our business operators during foreign visits and of course is planning to involve business operators in the visits. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the ministry has adapted to the situation and is staging also virtual visits.

According to the minister, embassies can help business operators gather information about potential sales clues and changes in the market situation.

Establishing a closer interconnection between Estonia's activities related to development cooperation and the interests of businesses was also discussed at the meeting. Besides, the signing of a memorandum to further intensify practical cooperation was talked about.
