US information technology firm Rocket Software has opened a new development center in Vilnius with plans to hire more than 200 engineers and programmers in the next 2-3 years, Invest Lithuania said.

Andrew Baldrian, the vice-president for engineering at Rocket Software, says Lithuania offers a very favorable business environment.

"In Lithuania, we have found educated and experienced software engineers, as well as a favorable business environment that is allowing us to start our operations quickly and efficiently," the government's foreign investment promotion agency quoted him as saying in a press release.

According to Mantas Katinas, the general manager of Invest Lithuania, Rocket Software's decision to choose Vilnius for its new software development center "strengthens the country's information and communications technology (ICT) ecosystem and bolsters Lithuania's global presence as a technology hub in Northern Europe".

Founded in Boston in 1990, Rocket Software now employs over 1,500 professionals at its units worldwide. It develops solutions that helps companies to take advantage of cloud, mobile, analytics, and other innovations.
