BC, Riga, 11.12.2020.Print version
The share of travelers filling out the Covidpass.lv questionnaire on arrival in Latvia has increased since authorities have stepped up controls, State Border Guard chief Guntis Pujats said in an interview with Latvian Radio today, cites LETA.

While the first checks revealed that some 30% of arriving travelers ignored the requirement to fill out the online questionnaire, in the last 24 hours, their share had decreased to 17%, Pujats said.

On Thursday, the State Border Guard informed that 26% of the 1,124 incoming travelers checked on December 7, 22% of the 1,796 travelers checked on December 8 and 19% of the 1,627 travelers checked on December 8 had not filled out the Covidpass.lv questionnaire.

The border guard chief said that the the State Border Guard in collaboration with the National Armed Forces and the State Police checks an average of 1,700 incoming travelers a day while  also trying to prevent queuing at the border.

Travelers who have not registered with Covidpass.lv are asked to do so. Asked about a possible penalizing of such people, Pujats said that for the time being border guards are working preventively but that penalties could be slapped on those who ignore the registration requirement repeatedly.

May incoming travelers, mostly foreigners, have been telling Latvian authorities that they had not known about the requirement to fill out the Covidpass.lv questionnaire. The State Border Guard has therefore asked their Lithuanian and Estonian colleagues to inform people about requirements in Latvia.

Since Monday, the State Border Guard in collaboration with the National Armed Forces and the State Police have been checking whether the persons arriving in Latvia from abroad fill out the digital questionnaire on the Covidpass.lv website.
