Estonia, Finland developing joint transport ticket system

Estonia and Finland are developing a system of public transport tickets, which would enable to use a joint card in the public transport of Tallinn and Helsinki, reports LETA/BNS.

"Tallinn and Helsinki have been preparing for a while for developing a joint ticket system. It would enable to use any transport card or bank card in the public transport of Tallinn as well as Helsinki," Estonian Minister of Economic Affairs and Infrastructure Kristen Michal was quoted by spokespeople as saying.

"A joint ticket system is a step toward a whole digital transport service," Michal said. "Next we could think of a solution which has all transport means and services integrated into, starting from airplanes and finishing with bicycle rental and Uber," he added.

According to Michal, in such a case an opportunity to plan a trip and ride in every means of transport with a mobile phone would arise. "Afterward a bill for all the rides made during a month would arrive at the end of the month," he added.

Michal is to meet with Nordic transport and IT ministers in Lapland to find ways for joint cooperation in the field of digital transport services.
