PM calls on Chinese entrepreneurs to invest in airBaltic

While on her visit to China, Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma paid a visit to ZTE yesterday – one of the world's largest telecommunication companies, and the airline company COMAC in Shanghai, LETA was informed by the State Chancellery's communications department.

During the meeting, ZTE showed interest in strengthening the existing cooperation with a number of Latvian telecommunication companies, by expanding the potential joint work in research and development. The company appreciated the strategic location of Latvia, as well as highly qualified specialists and scientists in the field of IT and telecommunications.

 

In a conversation with COMAC, the prime minister stressed that Riga - the largest airport in the Baltic region, and the national airline airBaltic, are interested in launching a direct flight to the city of Chengdu in China. "Direct communication promotes entrepreneurship and contacts between the countries," said the prime minister. She also noted that the national airline is interested in attracting a strategic investor.

 

During the meeting with Zhou Naixiang, Mayor of Suzhou and representatives of the city government, Straujuma expressed gratitude for hosting the important meeting of prime ministers of 16 Eastern and Central European countries and China to be held today that will be an important contribution to further cooperation between the EU and China. The officials also welcomed the current town twinning between Suzhou and Riga, which has turned into promotion of contacts in the fields of economy, culture, sports and tourism since 1997.
