Lithuania's government to reveal plans for national airline after run-off elections

BC, Vilnius, 05.03.2015.Print version
Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius in principle is not against the creation of a national airline, but stresses that without private investors such company would not be viable, reports LETA/ELTA.

According to the PM, the Government has several plans regarding the possible Lithuanian national airline, however, it would reveal them only after the run-off mayoral elections in Vilnius. Butkevicius did not go into details whether the national airline would be established on the basis of Air Lituanica.

"I believe that the Government is prepared to work with a serious investor and contribute to the creation of this project. It is definitely in our interest to have as many as possible direct flights from Lithuania to other cities in Europe. We have a more or less clearer vision but we need to wait for the end of elections and then make decisions," the PM said on the radio Ziniu Radijas.

As reported, Investors' Forum has proposed that the Government of Lithuania should invest in the national airline.

It was one of ten proposals put forward to the Government by Investors' Forum, the association uniting major investors in Lithuania's economy, on how to improve Lithuania's competitiveness and investment climate.
