Bookings at hotels are still slow in Latvia

Even though Baltic residents are free to travel for two weeks already, booking of hotels rooms are still slow, said Janis Pinnis, the president of the Latvian Association of Hotels and Restaurants, cites LETA.

Pinnis said that the number of bookings for July and August is slightly growing. There are cases when bookings made months ahead had been cancelled, but other customers book rooms instead.

He said that there is a certain intertia, and it is clear that only the Baltic customers will not ensure the necessary workload for hotels. There are hopes that Latvia could choose a similar path as Estonia who had opened the country for tourists from 16 Schengen countries.

As reported, Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics (New Unity) said in an interview with commercial TV3 television that by June 15, most of Europe can opened for traveling without the requirement for 14-day self isolation after crossing borders.

The Baltic states opened their internal borders for travelers on May 12.
