Latvia allows revoking residence permits or visas of non-EU citizens for flouting self-isolation rules

BC, Riga, 21.07.2020.Print version
Saeima today passed in the final reading legislative amendments allowing to revoke temporary residence permits or visas for those citizens of non-EU countries who breach self-isolation rules upon arriving in Latvia, informs LETA.

The Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (PMLP) will be able to revoke temporary residence permits or visas and invalidate decisions on the issuance of residence permits or visas.

PMLP will be authorized to take such decisions if it finds or receives information from the Health Inspectorate, State Police or municipal police that a foreigner has breached isolation, self-isolation, quarantine or home quarantine rules or restrictions on assembly.

Before the revocation of the residence permit or visa, the foreigner will be able to provide explanations and PMLP will analyze each case separately.

Foreigners can also face fines from EUR 10 to EUR 2,000 for violating Covid-19 restrictions.
