Construction of Orkla's new plant under way in Latvian Adazi

Construction of Orkla food company's new cookie and wafer plant has been launched in Adazi, LETA was told at the company.

The construction works were launched in a ceremony on Wednesday, November 4, in the presence of Economics Minister Janis Vitenbergs (KPV LV), Orkla Biscuit Production CEO Toms Didrihsons, Adazi mayor Maris Sprindzuks (Latvian Association of Regions) and Andris Bismeisters, board member and construction manager of Merks construction firm. 


The company's representatives said that the construction site would be set up in a few days time to prepare for laying the foundations of the new building. 


Didrihsons indicated that production at the plant is scheduled to begin in 2022. He noted that the new plant will provide jobs to 250 people. 


As reported, construction company Merks has signed a contract with Orkla Biscuit Production company for building a cookie and wafer production facility in Adazi for an estimated EUR 32 million.


In 2015, Norwegian food group Orkla, which owns Latvia’s NP Foods group, decided to merge Latvian food companies Laima, Staburadze, Latfood and NP Foods into one company, Orkla Confectionery & Snacks Latvija. Also, Latvian Spilva and Gutta companies were merged into Orkla Foods Latvija.
