Electrum Lietuva to buy all electricity from western Lithuanian wind farm

BC, Riga , 25.09.2020.Print version
Elektrum Lietuva, a Lithuanian subsidiary of Latvia's energy giant Latvenergo, has contracted to purchase all electricity generated by the Vydmantai wind farm in western Lithuania starting next year, adding around 60 gigawatt-hours (GWh) to its portfolio annually, write LETA/BNS.

Elektrum Lietuva said in a press release on Friday that it has signed a three-year contract with Vydmantai Wind Park, the farm's owner that is controlled by Inter RAO Lietuva.

Arturas Zatulinas, head of business customers at Elektrum Lietuva, said the Vydmantai wind farm's annual output is sufficient to supply 30,000 households with power.

Elektrum Lietuva said it remains on the lookout for similar green energy offers on the market.

The company estimates that it will supply more than 1 terawatt-hour (TWh) of electricity to the Lithuanian market this year.

Lithuania is launching next year the first phase of its electricity market liberalization. Currently, most households purchase electricity from the state-owned supplier Ignitis at prices regulated by the National Energy Regulatory Council.
