HKScan Latvia meatpacker adds four more countries to its export markets

HKScan Latvia, the meatpacker making products under the Rigas Miesnieks, Rakvere and Jelgava brands, has increased the number of its export markets from eight to 12, the company's sales director Heino Lapins told LETA.

He revealed that HKScan Latvia currently the company ships Latvian-made products to eight active markets in Europe, with the number of clients in these markets growing by the year. Recently, HKScan Latvia launched exports also to Croatia, Poland, Romania and the Czech Republic. 


Lapins said that it still difficult to estimate the impact of the Covid-19 situation on the export markets.  


HKScan Latvia realizes that in order to be successful in Latvia it has to develop exports, as the domestic market is contracting, largely because of the reducing population, Lapins said. 


In 2019, HKScan Latvia posted EUR 43.414 mдn in turnover, an increase of 12.4%on 2018, while the company's losses amounted to EUR 394,342 as compared to a profitable 2019, according to Firmas.lv.


HKScan Latvia was founded in 1992, it has been part of HKScan Group since 1998. The company's share capital is EUR 2.214 mдn. HKScan is one of the largest food companies in the Nordic countries and includes meat processing companies in Finland, Sweden, Denmark and the Baltic countries.
