airBaltic to start flying to Thessaloniki in September

BC, Riga, 03.08.2020.Print version
Latvia's national carrier airBaltic will launch seasonal flights from Riga to the Greek city of Thessaloniki from September 4, the airline's spokeswoman Alise Briede informed LETA.

airBaltic will operate two flights a week on the Riga-Thessaloniki route with its Airbus A220-300 aircraft.

As of August 13, airBaltic will also increase the number of flights on the Riga-Athens route to three flights a week.

airBaltic CEO Martin Gauss indicated that demand for trips to Greece has been growing the recent weeks and that airBaltic is therefore adapting its route map and adding more flights to the most popular holiday destinations. At the same time, the airline continues to follow the situation and adhering to strict safety rules to ensure the safety of its staff and passengers.

As reported, airBaltic will operate a new direct seasonal route from Riga to Rhodes in Greece starting on August 6.

airBaltic turned over EUR 503.281 million in 2019, a 23.1 percent increase against 2018, and sustained a EUR 7.729 million loss in contrast to a profit made year before, the company's audited statement shows. The airline forecasts a turnover of less than EUR 200 million this year.

The Latvian state currently owns 80 percent in airBaltic, and a 20 percent stake in the airline belongs to Aircraft Leasing 1, a company owned by Danish businessman Lars Thuesen.
