According to the decisions made by the European Union (EU) and recommendations from the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC), the resumption of scheduled passenger air traffic between Latvia and Georgia is expected in the near future, Minister of Transport Talis Linkaits (New Conservative Party) posted on his Twitter account.

The minister calls to follow along information on airlines' websites when flights could resume.

Meanwhile, information on the website of the Latvian national airline airBaltic shows that direct flights from Riga to Tbilisi are planned to resume on July 8.

The AFP news agency reports that the European Union agreed Tuesday to reopen its borders to 15 countries.

After days of negotiations, EU members finalised the list of countries whose health situation was deemed safe enough to allow residents to enter the bloc starting on July 1.

Those on the list are Algeria, Australia, Canada, Japan, Georgia, Montenegro, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia and Uruguay.

Travellers from China, where the virus first emerged late last year, will be allowed on the condition that Beijing reciprocates and opens the door to EU residents.
