He said that the Cabinet of Ministers on Tuesday will hear the informative report prepared by the Culture Ministry on a plan to build the Riga Acoustic Concert Hall on the site of the World Trade Center building at 2 Elizabetes Street.

According to the minister, the World Trade Center building will be torn down and the concert hall will be built in its place.

Karins said that the project will start with the informative report, and the culture community will be given the signal, that the Riga Acoustic Concert Hall will be built and it has a location.

Culture Minister Nauris Puntulis (National Alliance) said that the acoustic concert hall in Riga has been a long-term debt of the state before Latvia's excellent music industry. The minister voiced satisfaction that the government is ready to settle this debt in a respectful way. By tearing down the World Trade Center building, the city will get rid of a building that had been built for the Soviet nomenclature in one of the best locations of the city.

"The government will make this decision during the meeting tomorrow. It will be a big day for the government and culture sector," said Puntulis.

The minister said that an international tender will be announced. The concert hall requires an exclusive project and financing for the project will be included in next year's budget. According to the minister, the construction works can be started in three years.

The building at 2 Elizabetes Street was built in 1974 as the office building for the Central Committee of the Latvian USSR Communist Party. Since the 1990s it housed company World Trade Center Riga who moved to a different address in 2014. In 2018, there were plans to move the Economics Ministry and its institutions to the building, but more than EUR 22 million would be needed for renovation and refurnishing.
