Estonia: Hayashi-Grossschmidt Arhitektuur wins Hipodroomi quarter design competition

BC, Tallinn, 18.02.2020.Print version
Hayashi-Grossschmidt Arhitektuur (HGA) has won the competition for the architectural design of the Hipodroomi business quarter in Tallinn, which will include a new activity-based office of Elisa, the telecom operator announced LETA/BNS.

The business quarter to be developed at the address 50 Paldiski Road is to be made up of up to four commercial buildings and a parking building. Construction work is to be completed by 2023, Elisa said.

Karl Ader, development manager at the project's manager EKE AS, described the competition for the architectural design as tight, where the final choice had to be made between two strongest entries.

"The work by HGA was the best architecturally and offered the most optimal volumes and layout for up to four commercial buildings and a parking building," Ader said.

The competition jury based its decision, among other things, on the originality and effectiveness of the designs and their suitability for the environment, as well as the functionality of the layouts of business premises, simplicity of technical solutions, cost-effectiveness, and energy efficiency.

Meelis Jurn, head of the field of administration at Elisa, said that a competition to find the partner in interior design is currently underway and the winner is expected to be announced in the coming few weeks.

EKE AS announced in November 2019 that construction of the Hipodroomi business quarter may start in the third quarter of 2020.
