Estonian ridesharing service Taxify expands to Kiev
There are more than 20,000 taxis in Kiev. Like in other East European countries, the quality of the cars varies and only a few taxis accept card payments, Taxify said.
Taxify started operations in Kiev with 200 cars. The fleet includes licensed taxis and private drivers who offer ridesharing. All drivers and cars have passed a thorough background check and training by Taxify.
"Ukraine is a very large market and we've been considering expanding to that country for some time. It represents an interesting challenge for Taxify, as local taxis mostly use an agreed fixed charge rather than a taximeter as is usual elsewhere in Europe," head of development at Taxify Martin Villig said.
Founded in Estonia in 2013, Taxify currently operates in 21 cities of 14 countries and has a staff of more than 50.
