EUR 2 mln to be invested in development of Daugavpils Innovation Center

Daugavpils City Council will invest EUR 2,011,605 in the development of Daugavpils Innovation Center, the State Education Development Agency's specialist Alise Berzina told LETA.

The Daugavpils City Council, in cooperation with Trondheim Science Center and Daugavpils University, is planning to create interactive environment teaching new STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) skills, knowledge and competences to not only students, but also education specialists.


According to the Education Development Agency Director Dita Traidas, active development of afterschool centers and science centers is currently well under way across Latvia, and the new center in Daugavpils will offer modern creative education environment for residents of Daugavpils and Latgale.


In three years, Daugavpils Innovation Center will offer different afterschool programs, activities and classes, exhibitions, seminars, workshops, co-working space, public events for children and youth, prompting their interest in STEM.


Daugavpils Mayor Igors Prelatovs (Our Party) said that the new center would expand students' horizons and teach them new STEM skills.


The total cost of the project is EUR 2,011,605, of which EUR 1.538.877 will be allotted from the Norwegian grant program Research and Education, EUR 271,567 from the Latvian state budget, while Daugavpils City Council will contribute EUR 201,161.
