Education in Latvian will have to be provided in all municipal preschools as of September

Print versionoday, Saeima in Latvia adopted in the final reading amendments to the Education Law and General Education Law that oblige all municipal preschool educational institutions to ensure the availability of educational programs in the state language, informs LETA.

The leader of the National Association Raivis Dzintars said that, as a result, there would no longer be situations when educational programs in a municipal kindergarten would only be available in Russian.
The amendments to the General Education Law previously supported by Saeima Education, Culture and Science Committee also stipulate that preschool educational institutions must ensure Latvian language classes for those children who need it - including those whose native language is not Latvian.
According to the amendments, preschool educational institutions will have to provide learning in the state language as of September 1, 2021.
