Polls have showed that Lithuanian society's intolerance to corruption has been growing. Justice Minister Juozas Bernatonis says that Lithuanians' attitude towards corruption has fundamentally changed in 20 years of independence, as well as the conditions under which they work, informs LETA/ELTA.

However, every second resident in Lithuania (48%) still tends to bribe in order to solve their problems. Moreover, a total of 69% of those polled believe that bribes help to tackle problems.

The latest Corruption Perceptions Index by Transparency International ranked Lithuania 39th with 58 points out of 100. Last year, Lithuania was ranked 43rd.

According to the 2014 data of the Lithuanian map of corruption, a sociological study, residents of Lithuania are the most likely to use bribes to solve problems (48%, in 2011 – 57%).

The share of businessmen who are ready to bribe in order to tackle their problems is much smaller now – 21% (in 2011 – 40%), of public servants – 23% (in 2011 – 35%). A total of 69% of Lithuania's residents say that bribes help to solve problems (in 2011 – 79%).
