"Reserved forecasts regarding the recovery of the world economy next year make us revise our plans too, however, we do not abandon our ambitions to maintain the position of the growth leaders in the European Union. The experience of the past two years allows us being optimistic about achieving this goal. Along with the euro introduction, we will continue to exercise strict fiscal discipline, which creates confidence in the macroeconomic environment, and strengthen the country's competitiveness – the key to further development and welfare," he said.

According to the PM, energy is most often referred to when strategic projects are discussed. However, the top importance projects also include regional development. The new financial outlook provides for an investment of LTL 3.5 billion (EUR 1.01 billion) in regional development.

"The future of Lithuania is not about a couple of major cities but it has to do with the system of regional centres which are consistently developed. It will assure business development and welfare throughout the entire country. Therefore, a large share of investment will be used to promote the investment appeal of smaller cities and improve business conditions," the prime minister said.
