The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) experts were pleased to work together with the Latvian team that was following all the necessary preconditions for the accession talks to close successfully, OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurria told Latvian President Andris Berzins today, as the Presidential Press Service informed LETA.

During the meeting, Berzins thanked Gurria for the constructive and efficient cooperation with the OECD committees, adding he hoped that such cooperation would continue in the future. On the other hand, Gurria praised Latvia's economic growth and accomplishments in overcoming the crisis, stressing that OECD experts were pleased at the cooperation with Latvian officials who have been working professionally so Latvia would meet all the necessary preconditions for the talks to be successful.

Both parties agreed that steady economic growth continues in Latvia, facilitated by improvements in the business environment and development of export industries, however, it is also important to consider the current negative geopolitical situation.

In describing Latvia's actions and plans in exporting products and services to new markets, Berzins mentioned Central Asian and Caucasian countries, as well as opportunities for cooperation with other Western countries in order to jointly seek partnerships with these regions and countries.

In order to facilitate Latvia's accession to the OECD, the officials agreed that Latvia must pass the law on the management of state and municipal companies as soon as possible, because the OECD will review the next report on Latvia already on October 22.
