Steinbuka urges Latvian politicians to shelve ideas about tax cuts

BC, Riga, 28.08.2014.Print version
Latvia must avoid unbalanced state budget, therefore Latvian politicians should not be overly enthusiastic with ideas about tax reductions, the head of the European Commission Representation in Latvia, Inna Steinbuka said in an interview with LNT television this morning, cites LETA.

The government has cut Latvia's gross domestic product growth forecasts, thus ideas about tax cuts should be shelved unless there is strong certainty that the state will be able to compensate the missing tax revenue by combating shadow economy or other means, said Steinbuka

She suggested that the government should rather consider shifting tax burden from labor to consumption.

When asked about the Citadele bank sale process, Steinbuka said that the European Commission "has no concerns" about it.
