Lithuanian PM promises to increase pensions, benefits, salaries from 2015

Lithuania’s Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius introduced to Parliament primary tasks of the Cabinet. He promised that pensions, social benefits and public sector salaries will be increased starting the year 2015, informs LETA/ELTA.

"The Political Council of the Coalition held a meeting recently. The minister of social security and labour introduced her vision for the upcoming year. However, it has not been decided yet when and how much the base pensions and insurance payments will grow.

 

According to Butkevicius, information was also submitted on plans to increase sickness and maternity social insurance payments, minimum salaries and salaries in the public sector.

 

"The programme will be coordinated with the ministry of finance in the nearest Political Council sitting. Financial possibilities of the country have to be assessed. Still, we will see increase in these areas from next year," said Butkevicius.

 

As reported, after the Seimas approved Algirdas Butkevicius candidature, President of the Republic of Lithuania, Dalia Grybauskaite, appointed him as Prime Minister.

 

Subject to the Constitution and the Seimas approval, the president signed the decree.

 

President Dalia Grybauskaite instructed the prime minister to form the Government in no later than 15 days and submit it for the approval of the president.
