BC, Riga, 25.04.2014.Print version
Latvia’s Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma (Unity), marking the 100th day of her government today, told members of the press that her government has been stable and hard at work in these first 100 days in office, reports LETA.

Straujuma emphasized that her government has continued the work started by the previous government, and added that Latvia remains the fastest growing economy in the European Union.

''All of the ministries have been hard at work,'' said Straujuma, who especially praised the work of the Defense Ministry, which has been very visible recently due to the events in Ukraine. In regard to crisis in Ukraine, the prime minister added that she has received words of assurance from various other prime ministers, who confirmed that if necessary, they will act in accordance with Article 5 of the NATO Treaty.

She said that the work of the Economy Ministry is important, because Latvia's energy independence is a huge priority.

''I have no complaints against any one of my ministers. We are now in a different Latvia than the one I started work in as prime minister, and now our security has become our main priority,'' she emphasized.

The government of Laimdota Straujuma marks 100 days in office today. The current government was confirmed on January 22 after Straujuma's predecessor Valdis Dombrovksis (Unity) resigned, taking political responsibility for the Zolitude tragedy.
