Lithuania's FinMin: proposal to establish equal minimum wage in all EU is unrealistic

BC, Vilnius, 24.04.2014.Print version
Lithuanian Minister of Finance Rimantas Sadzius was sceptical about the Order and Justice Party's proposal to sign an agreement on equal minimum income in the European Union countries, informs LETA/ELTA.

"I have serious doubts whether this is feasible. (...) It would be impossible to equalise these standards in all EU member states because all of the 28 countries differ enough, they differ economically. Productivity, income and price levels also vary. Thus, such unification seems unrealistic in the nearest future," minister of finance told the radio station Ziniu Radijas on Thursday.

As reported, MEP Rolandas Paksas told the journalists on Tuesday that the ruling coalition is considering a proposal for the parties participating in the EP election to sign a political agreement on equal minimum income in the EU. According to Paksas, deliberations will continue in 10 days.
