Direct foreign investment in Latvia over 608 mln euro in 2013

At 2.6% of GDP, Latvia looked at a EUR 608.9 million direct foreign investment total in 2013, informs LETA, referring to the Bank of Latvia.

Finance and insurance topped the list with a EUR 208.4 million total, primarily flowing in from Sweden, Russia and the U.S.

 

Showing better results than in 2012 were the processing industry with total investment at EUR 94.6 million (from Luxembourg, Cyprus and Denmark), retail, EUR 51.2 million (Estonia and Lithuania) and the mining industry, EUR 27 million (mainly from the Netherlands).

 

Last year, credit rating agencies upgraded the rating of Latvia that could further encourage investment, according to the Bank of Latvia. Nevertheless, compared with 2012, the volume of foreign direct investment declined – in the previous year they made up 768.5 million lats or 3.5% of GDP.
