70% Estonians working in Finland pay social tax there

BC, Tallinn, 11.04.2014.Print version
A study conducted by the Finnish social insurance board indicated that from around 60,000 Estonians who worked in Finland in 2013, 70% paid their social insurance taxes there, LETA/Public Broadcasting reports.

This means that the main workplace of these people was in Finland. The rest of the Estonians who worked in Finland had social insurance coverage in Estonia, since their main workplace was in Estonia.

Still, it is estimated that thousands of people who work both in Finland and Estonia paid social insurance taxes in both states without needing to. In order to avoid double insurance, people have to acquire a A1 certificate. 12,472 people who went from Estonia to Finland to work were issued A1 certificates last year, which places Estonians on the top position among foreigners who work part time or on assignment in Finland.

The second place in this list belongs to the Polish, of whom 3,096 have taken the A1 certificate from their home state.
