The adoption of the euro in Latvia will also be a positive signal to the eurozone itself, Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis (Unity) told reporters before the June 27-28 summit of European Union leaders in Brussels yesterday, informs LETA.

Several member states have mentioned that Latvia's accession to the eurozone will be a positive signal to the eurozone itself, indicating that that the euro area is overcoming the crisis, expanding and welcoming new member states, pointed out the prime minister.

 

Likewise, it is a positive signal to Latvia. The country has stabilized its finances, restored economic growth and brought itself in order to able to join the eurozone. And it is a positive signal to the eurozone, proving that it is implementing measures for overcoming the crisis, trust in the eurozone has not faltered and countries are willing to join it, said Dombrovskis.

 

As reported, today, during the second day of the European Council's meeting in Brussels, European Union leaders will make a decision on Latvia's accession to the eurozone.

 

All forecasts indicate that, with support from EU leaders, Latvia will make its next-to-last step toward becoming the 18th member of the eurozone.
