Switzerland tops global innovation index; Estonia ranked 19th in the world

Print versionSwitzerland was on Tuesday named the world leader in innovation by a UN agency report, while Latvia was ranked at a respective 30th place, and Estonia even 19th.
The report by UN agency World Intellectual Property Index (WIPO) and INSEAD business school ranked 141 countries using 84 indicators, informs LETA/AFP.
Switzerland took the top spot for the second year running, followed by Sweden and Singapore.
Latvia was ranked 30th on the list. Estonia was ranked 19th in the world, while Lithuania was ranked 38th.
According to the report, some eastern European countries, meanwhile, were "performing at a higher level" than might be expected given their income, including the Czech Republic, Hungary, Serbia and Latvia.
