Foreign trade deficit of Lithuania decreased by 15.6% in October y-o-y

Statistics Lithuania informs that, based on provisional data obtained from customs declarations and Intrastat reporting data, exports in October 2010 amounted to LTL 5.4 billion, imports – LTL 5.7 billion. Foreign trade deficit of Lithuania amounted to LTL 0.3 billion, which is by 15.6% less than in October 2009. Data on trade with EU countries were adjusted after VAT returns data had been received. Over a year (October 2010, against October 2009), exports and imports increased by 43.5 and 37.6% respectively.

Mineral products excluded, exports and imports increased by 36.5 and 31.7% respectively; exports of goods of Lithuanian origin increased by 38.8%, mineral products excluded – by 27%. An increase in exports was influenced by an 82% increase in exports of petroleum products, 68.6% – boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances, 85.6 – fertilisers. An increase in imports was influenced by a 45.4% increase in imports of crude petroleum, 95.5 – ground vehicles.

 

Over a month (October 2010, against September), exports and imports increased by 7.8 and 0.1% respectively. Mineral products excluded, exports and imports increased by 8 and 2.6% respectively; exports of goods of Lithuanian origin increased by 4.8%, mineral products excluded – by 4.2%. An increase in exports was influenced by a 94% increase in exports of fertilisers.

 

In January–October 2010, compared to the same period in 2009, exports and imports grew by 30.2 and 29.9% respectively. Mineral products excluded, exports and imports increased by 25.7 and 22.2% respectively; exports of goods of Lithuanian origin increased by 27.4%, mineral products excluded – 20%. An increase in exports was influenced by a 49.3% increase in exports of petroleum products, 46.2% – ground vehicles, 31.6% – plastics and articles thereof. An increase in imports was influenced by a 45.7% increase in imports of crude petroleum, 61.7% – ground vehicles, 37.1% – electrical equipment and parts thereof.

 

In January–October 2010, the most important partners in exports were Russia (15.3%), Germany (10.2%), Latvia (9.6%) and Poland (7.9%), in imports – Russia (32.6%), Germany (11.1%), Poland (9%) and Latvia (6.1%).

 

In January–October 2010, the largest share in exports fell within mineral products (24%), machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (10.2%), products of the chemical or allied industries (7.9%), in imports – mineral products (33.1%), machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (12.1%), products of the chemical or allied industries (11.4%).
