Of the new Covid-19 cases discovered last week, 16% of patients developed no symptoms, said Jurijs Perevoscikovs, head of the Disease Risk Analysis and Prevention Department at the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC), in a press conference today, informs LETA.

He said that the share of patients with no symptoms is quite small.

At the same time, it could be even smaller. "When the epidemiologist calls the new patient, inquires about symptoms, they have not developed yet, but it does not mean that they will not develop at all," he said.

Meanwhile, the share of patients with medium or severe symptoms is about the same. 14% of new Covid-19 patients get hospitalized in a week.

As reported, Latvia registered a new daily record of Covid-19 cases as 898 people tested positive for the virus on Wednesday, according to the data released by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).

Four persons died of Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. Two were in the 70 to 75 age group, one in the 55 to 60 age group, and one in the 80 to 85 age group.

Latvia's Covid-19 death toll has thus risen to 188.

Of the 8,024 tests carried our in the past 24 hours, 11.2% came back positive. The CDC explained earlier that in the European Union this indicator is considered important because when this figure rises above 4%, the spread of the disease is considered to be rapid and uncontrolled.

To date, 15,171 people in Latvia have been diagnosed with Covid-19 and there are currently 12,403 active cases.
