Covid-19 incidence in Latvia is almost 15 times lower than in EU, EEA countries on average

As the Covid-19 situation in the EU and EEA continues to deteriorate, the two-week cumulative indicator in the area has risen to 76 cases per 100,000 residents which is almost 15 times more than in Latvia, said Jurijs Perevoscikovs, the director of the Disease Risk Analysis and Prevention Department at the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC), informs LETA.

According to the epidemiologist, in Latvia this indicator is five per 100,000 residents, which is still the lowest indicator in Europe among countries where there are active Covid-19 cases.


Meanwhile, in Estonia this indicator has risen to 31 cases, and in Lithuania - to 24.


The highest incidence is still  registered in Spain - more than 300 cases per 100,000 residents.


Last week, 16,575 Covid-19 tests were conducted in Latvia.


There are also positive trends in the share of positive Covid-19 tests among all tests. In Latvia this share was 0.3-0.4% last week, meanwhile, in at least ten European countries it is over 3%.


Last week, 51 new Covid-19 infections were reported in Latvia.
