Residents of Lithuania and Estonia in June visited Latvia by 43 % more often than in the respective month last year, according to Citadele bank's data on payments made in Latvia's POS terminals, informed LETA.

Compared to April, the number of payments with payment cards issued by Lithuanian and Estonian banks increased 11 times.

Lithuanians most often traveled to Riga, Jurmala, Liepaja, Saldus, Daugavpils, while Estonians visited Riga, Valka, Jurmala, Valmiera and Sigulda.

Estonians were more active than Lithuanians - in June payments with Estonian cards in Latvia increased almost 12 times, while payments with cards issued in Lithuania increased ten times compared to April.

Citadele representative Ivo Ansbergs said that payments in Latvia with bank cards issued by other countries is one of the indicators for mobility and tourism and a good index for assessment of the Baltic travel trends.

The call to replace far-away trips with trips around one's own country or the neighboring countries has been heard. The virus outbreak will affect local tourism, and the initial data show that the interest is high, he said.
