In May, provisional population of Latvia accounted for 1 mln 903.5 thsd

Data of the Central Statistical Bureau show that in March and April 2020, 1 020 marriages were registered – 344 or 25.2% less than in the respective two months of 2019. On average 17 marriages were registered daily during these two months (22 marriages in 2019).

Drop in the number of marriages registered was affected by the implementation of emergency situation in Latvia due to Covid-19 pandemic.




In March and April of this year, 426 marriages were registered in Riga – 118 or 22% less than in the respective two months of 2019. In the rest territory of Latvia 28% less marriages were registered during this period than in March and April 2019.




In April 2020, number of registered births (1 525) was 2.1% less than in the respective month of the previous year. Number of deaths in April comprised 2 311 and that is 5.6% less than in April a year ago.




In April of this year there were 786 deaths more than births.




In April, 482 marriages were registered, which is 161 marriage less than in the respective month of the previous year.




On 1 May 2020, provisional population of Latvia accounted for 1 million 903.5 thousand.
