Latvian exports of forestry products down 11% in 10 months

In the first ten months of 2019, Latvia exported EUR 2.189 bn worth of forestry products, which is an decrease of 1 % against the same period a year ago, according to information released by the Agriculture Ministry writes LETA.

Timber and timber products made up the bulk or 85.5 % (86 % a year ago) of total forestry product exports in January-October 2019, accounting for EUR 1.872 bn and declining 1.5% y-o-y.


Timber exports in the first ten months of 2019 included EUR 568.918 mln worth of sawn timber, down 8.8% y-o-y.


Firewood exports increased 32% y-o-y to EUR 362.012 mln, round timber exports reached EUR 198.48 mln, down 18.3% from a year ago, plywood exports fell 21.4% to EUR 176.986 mln, and exports of woodchip plates dropped 16.8% to EUR 153.677 mln.


In January-October, Latvia supplied forestry products mainly to the UK (17.8%), Estonia (12.6%) and Sweden (11.5%).


Exports to the UK decreased by 5.1% to EUR 390.029 mln, exports to Estonia grew 24.3% to EUR 276.1 mln and exports to Sweden dropped 5.3% to EUR 252.312 mln.

In the first ten months of 2018, Latvia exported EUR 2.212 bn worth of forestry products.
