Labor inspectors in Latvia discover 880 unregistered employees in January-September

During the first nine months of 2017, labor inspectors found 880 employees working without registration in Latvia, writes LETA, according to the data released by the State Labor Inspectorate.

Most of the unregistered employees, or 61%, had been working without labor agreements and registration with the State Revenue Service, 29% had labor agreements but were not registered with the Revenue Service, and 10% had no labor agreements but were registered with the Revenue Service.


Last year, labor inspectors discovered 1,402 such persons and a year before 1,404 persons.


According to the State Labor Inspectorate’s data, the highest number of unregistered employees was found working in construction, manufacturing, trade, the hospitality and food services sector and agriculture.


In the first nine months of this year, the State Labor Inspectorate imposed 1,294 administrative penalties, including 42% for unregistered employment, 30% for a failure to comply with the State Revenue Service’s demands, 21% for violations of the labor law and 7% for violations of labor protection rules.
