"Over the year, Lithuania has made a significant breakthrough in the acceleration of its OECD accession process. We will continue our efforts to make sure that all planned reforms are implemented in time to make Lithuania a fully-fledged member of the organization next year," government chancellor Milda Darguzaite said in a press release after a meeting with the OECD representatives.

The OECD representatives were updated on the amendment to the Law on Forests on consolidation of forestry companies, as well as legal changes enabling merger of road maintenance companies. The Lithuanian delegation said this was part of the efforts to ensure more efficient and transparent operations of state-run companies.

Darguzaite said the reforms were not only aimed at ensuring OECD membership but were also necessary for the country's economic development and efficient management of properties.

Lithuania started the OECD accession process after receipt of invitation in June of 2015, with a decision on membership expected in June of 2018.
