In total 217,567 voters have expressed their support for the Constitutional amendments in the two rounds of signature drive, according the final data confirmed by the Central Election Commission (CVK).

As LETA learned from the CVK Information department, 6814 signatures were found erroneous and were eliminated from the total list. 6659 of the voters had signed twice, 35 voters did not have Latvian citizenship, 22 persons had a limited legal capacity, two of the signatures belonged to people, who have died or are missing, one person at the moment of signing had not reached the age of 18 and 60 persons were not identified in the Population Registry.

The number of voters was 14.6%, that is, more than one tenth of the number of voters during the last Saeima's elections, therefore the CVK will submit the suggested Constitutional amendments to the President Valdis Zatlers, who will pass them on to Saeima.

Saeima will have to examine the bill in a session, where at least two thirds of Saeima's members have to participate. The support from at least two thirds of the deputies present will be needed to accept the draft law.

In case if the Parliament turns down the constitutional amendments or accepts them with changes, a referendum will have to be organized.

The Association of Latvian Free Unions initiated the signature drive to propose Constitutional amendments.

The amendments propose altering Paragraphs 78 and 79 of the Constitution so that one tenth of the voters could propose dissolving Saeima.
