Export surpasses import of services in almost all Estonian counties

The export of services exceeded import in the first quarter of 2016 in almost all Estonian counties with the exception of the Hiiu and Polva counties, data of Statistics Estonia show, cites LETA/BNS.

The export and import of services was the biggest in Harju County with close to 290 million euros.

 

According to the Bank of Estonia, the export of services in the first quarter totaled 1.1 billion euros and import, 0.8 billion euros at current prices. Compared to the same period of last year, export declined by 4% and import by 1%, the statistical office says in its blog.

 

Economic units operating in Harju County exported the most services. Transport services were the leading category of export with 235 million euros. Other services including research and development, professional and management consultation, technical, trade-related and other business-related services accounted for 133 million euros.

 

The export of transport services from Harju County decreased by 9% in annual comparison, but the export of other business services increased by 5%. Tallinn-registered business units exported half a billion euros' worth of services which made up 47% of Estonia's total export of services. Compared to the first quarter of 2015, the volume of services exported  by business units based in Tallinn fell by 7%.

 

The second-largest exporter of services was Tartu County with 65 million euros, followed by East-Viru County with 26 million euros. The volume of services exported by economic units of Hiiu County was the smallest at 1 million euros.

 

Estonia's balance of the export and import of services had a surplus of 253 million euros. Harju County had a surplus of 289.6 million euros, Tartu County 33.1 million euros, and East-Viru County 16.1 million euros. Hiiu County had a negative balance of 0.5 million euros and Polva County, 1.4 million euros. Economic units with undetermined county ran a deficit of 121.1 million euros.

 

The statistics are based on data of foreign trade in services collected and processed by the central bank, which Statistics Estonia tied to administrative units corresponding to legal addresses of economic units.
